I don't know if I felt a release of pressure since it was so late in the season or if I didn't have much expectation for myself or what. But I felt great and it was really cool to race so confidently among those that represent the best of our sport at the national level.

Syd's recounting of the race is accurate. It was fast and the crowd was amazing. The two days in KC made the women feel like guests of honor--from the banquet on Sunday night, to the screaming crowd Monday (and generous applause on the cool-down lap!), to the post-race party hosted by Kelly's (Cheerwine) parents...Wow.

It was definitely a race for me to end my season. My biggest regret is that more of our team didn't get to share it with us. And that I didn't go just an ounce harder in the last few laps. I really kept waiting to "hit the wall" in terms of my aerobic capacity, but that wall never really materialized and my realization came 500 meters too late. I finished that race wishing I had another today to try it all over again.

Our little team looked good out there. A lot of times we rode near each other and moved around the pack well. Anna, our guest rider, did great. Next year we'll be more aggressive, but all in all this was a great summary of a season. We're there, hanging in, taking notes and climbing up that ladder...

I'm still smiling.
